Our Mission The Regional Prevention Center of Northeast Kansas strives to promote and develop a comprehensive, collaborative statewide risk-focused strategy that increases the capacity of Kansas communities to achieve targeted outcomes, reduce risk, and increase protection for the above-mentioned adolescent problems. In cooperation with Connect Kansas, we hold nine developmental outcomes of healthy communities as our focus. We use six different strategies to work towards our mission and address seven core competencies in our communities. All of us are affected by problems that impact teenagers, even if we aren't directly involved. Violence, delinquency, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, and school drop-out can change our communities and our way of life. The Kansas Regional Prevention Centers offer resources to help communities develop the best potential of the young people who live and go to school there. Resources available include a wide range of videos and printed materials as well as consultation from our staff. The Regional Prevention Center takes a community approach in working towards its goals. Our community consultants facilitate grassroots groups or coalitions as they undertake planning and activities using the Communities That Care model which was adopted by the state of Kansas in 1992. This process allows communities to become more involved with local prevention efforts. Coalitions are given the opportunity to analyze the risks in their communities, evaluate current resources and agencies addressing prevention, and develop strategies for improvement. Communities That Care make prevention a local issue. As a statewide system, the 13 Regional Prevention Centers funded by Addiction and Prevention Services provide leadership in achieving outcomes to reduce the risk for adolescent behaviors through enhancing protective factors in important areas of children's lives: community, family, peers and school. |
